Left-wing political commentator and Twitch streamer Hasan Piker will speak at Sage Chapel on Sept. 24 at 6:30 p.m., hosted by the student-led Students Not Bombs coalition. The appearance will also be livestreamed directly to his massive online audience. Piker has long operated as a political lightning rod, drawing intense scrutiny across the political spectrum for provocative rhetoric. National figures, media critics, Republicans, and moderate Democrats have frequently targeted him over inflammatory statements, ranging from a past comment that “America deserved 9/11” to recent high-profile backlash over comments regarding American Jews and the Israeli government. On campus, the invitation has triggered immediate pushback. Grinspoon Hillel at Cornell voiced sharp criticism over the booking, arguing that Piker’s history of “hateful, antisemitic rhetoric” crosses the line from debate into incitement. All 450 free tickets were claimed within hours of release, pushing organizers to open a waitlist on CampusGroups. Sage Chapel will see heightened security measures for the event, including mandatory Cornell ID checks, a strict no-bag policy, and metal detector wands at the doors.
