Newly released Department of Justice files show that David Karp ‘16 maintained a correspondence with Jeffrey Epstein during his time as a Cornell undergraduate. The emails reveal that Epstein helped the aspiring filmmaker connect with director Woody Allen for film screenings and production work. The records indicate that Karp’s father, Brad Karp, also communicated with Epstein to facilitate these professional opportunities for his son. Brad Karp, who serves as chairman of the law firm Paul Weiss, expressed gratitude to Epstein for social invitations in the years leading up to David’s graduation. While at Cornell, Karp was a notable student figure, winning a major university video contest and having his photography featured on official Cornell social media accounts. The correspondence continued through 2018, with Karp attending private screenings of Allen’s films arranged by Epstein. No further communication between the parties was found in the files after that year. David Karp now serves as a creative director for a production company he co-founded.
