Over 100 protesters, primarily Cornell students, gathered at Ho Plaza before marching to Day Hall on Wednesday to voice their opposition to ICE. The rally comes following the recent killings of three civilians by federal immigration agents: Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, and Keith Porter Jr. in Los Angeles.
Organized by a coalition of student groups including the Cornell Democrats, Progressives, ACLU, and Students for Justice in Palestine, the event highlighted deep frustrations with the Trump administration’s aggressive enforcement tactics. Protesters criticized the federal government’s use of force and called on Cornell leadership to better protect its students and staff from outside interference.
While students continue to champion human rights on campus, many expressed disappointment in the university administration’s cautious stance toward federal authorities. One point of contention was Cornell’s decision to host U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Handshake, the university’s official hiring platform.
The march serves as a clear signal that the student body remains committed to holding both the federal government and university leadership accountable.
