The Big Red is taking over the world stage this week as four legendary alumnae represent their home countries at the 2026 Winter Olympics. This year marks a historic milestone for the program as Rory Guilday ’25 becomes the first Cornellian to ever suit up for the United States in women’s hockey.
Guilday is joined in Milan by a powerhouse group of veteran skaters. Brianne Jenner ’15 and Kristin O’Neill ’20 are competing for Team Canada, while Laura Fortino ’13 makes her third Olympic appearance, this time representing the host nation, Italy.
Cornell’s dominance in the sport is no accident. Nine of the program’s ten total Olympians were coached by Doug Derraugh ’91, cementing Ithaca as a premier pipeline for international talent. With a combined legacy of nine gold medals already under their belts, these athletes are ready to add more hardware to the Big Red collection.
Tournament play begins today, February 5, with the highly anticipated U.S. vs. Canada showdown set for February 10.
