Rainn Wilson brought a night of high energy to Cornell’s Bailey Hall this past Saturday. The Emmy-nominated actor is best known for his iconic role as Dwight Schrute on The Office. While he discussed his recent literary and travel projects, the crowd remained most vocal about his time at Dunder Mifflin. The event featured conversation and games—“Dwight” or Wrong and a makeshift Dundie Award show—moderated by Cornell senior Joshua Martin. While Wilson arrived wearing a plain brown top, he soon reached into his bag for a dramatic surprise reveal of a Cornell sweatshirt. He dramatically donned the shirt much to the delight of the crowd. In a standout moment, Wilson FaceTimed former co-star Ed Helms—who portrayed one of Cornell’s most famous alumni, Andy Bernard—live on stage. He even left Helms on the phone in the interview chair and completely walked off the stage. The actor did soon return to finish the discussion and take audience questions. Early into the talk, Wilson accidentally uttered everyone’s favorite number: 6-7. The crowd went wild and he realized his mistake, deciding to incorporate it into a running gag throughout the show. He must have made the joke six, seven times or so. During audience Q&A, most questions came from students, but one came from the younger brother of an old family friend of Wilson’s recalling playing video games together back in the day. It was a memorable night for fans of the Beet Farm’s most famous resident. Fun Fact: Wilson also co-founded online media company SoulPancake, which made the Kid President series.
