Editorial standards & corrections

Cornellians Only is an independent publication and community platform. We are not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Cornell University. These standards guide our reporting on this website and our social media accounts.

Sources & accuracy

Our reporting draws on publicly available records, official statements, published reporting, and our own newsgathering. We seek to verify factual claims and identify the sources of allegations so readers can distinguish what a source says from what has been established. A tip or a claim circulating online is not, by itself, verification.

Allegations, findings & convictions

An accusation, arrest, criminal charge, or allegation in a lawsuit does not establish criminal guilt. People accused of crimes are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. We describe unproven allegations as allegations and distinguish them from findings and convictions.

When a court has established guilt through a conviction or an accepted guilty plea, we may report that outcome and the offense. Civil judgments and university disciplinary findings are distinct from criminal convictions and are identified accordingly. Reporting one person's conduct does not establish wrongdoing by others associated with that person.

Reporting & commentary

We publish news alongside commentary, advocacy, and community content. We aim to make clear when we are expressing an opinion and the facts on which it is based. Commentary does not replace factual verification.

Corrections & developments

Coverage reflects the information available at the time of publication. Ongoing matters may develop, including dismissals, acquittals, appeals, or changes to earlier findings. We welcome substantiated corrections, responses from people discussed in our coverage, and information about material developments.

To request a correction or share relevant context, email contact@cornelliansonly.com with the article or social media post link, the specific statement at issue, and supporting information. We review requests and correct confirmed factual errors. We clearly identify material corrections in the affected coverage, including on social media where applicable.
