Thousands of Cornell students and faculty gathered outside Willard Straight Hall and marched to Day Hall on Monday evening, demanding systemic reform and institutional accountability over the university’s handling of sexual assault allegations. Organized by Students for a Democratic Cornell alongside a coalition of more than twenty campus organizations, the “Justice for Survivors” demonstration called for mandatory minimum sanctions, enforceable investigation timelines, and an end to administrative inaction. Protesters rallied in solidarity with Jane Doe, donning purple pins and holding signs demanding President Michael Kotlikoff step down. The peaceful demonstration followed overnight vandalism at Day Hall, which has become the epicenter of student outrage after a federal lawsuit brought national scrutiny to Cornell’s disciplinary processes. More student-led actions are scheduled throughout the week, including an open campus town hall and a seven-hour sit-in.
